#Karma motif xs software
This allows you to control KARMA from the keyboard without looking at the computer, and makes it feel like the KARMA software is built-in to the keyboard. The software includes the ability to use the keyboard’s DAW Remote Mode to control all of KARMA’s functions directly from the keyboard, while KARMA sends parameter information and values directly to the keyboard’s display (on supported models). I'd definitely agree, though, with those who suggested going more the software route if you want to emulate a variety of specific dance genres.KARMA Motif brings developer Stephen Kay’s award-winning and patented KARMA algorithmic music technology to a number of Yamaha synthesizers in a Mac/PC software package, giving them extensive new interactive groove generation, arpeggiation and arranger-like capabilities. The slider and knob section of the Motif is definitely superior to the M3's toylike, wobbly little sliders, but the M3's interface is otherwise very well thought out.īoth have little ribbon controls which are very cool the M3's joystick is great compared with the Motif's traditional pitch wheel, but I am a modulation wheel kind of guy (two, please), and I like joysticks that don't spring back to center (although the M3's touchscreen can function brilliantly in just this way).Īll that being said, however, the XS is perfectly capable of sounding not just beautiful, but beautifully electronic, if programmed creatively.Īs far as workstations go, the M3 is just overall much more suited to "electronic" styles of music. I love the fully weighted action on the Motif XS8, however. The keyboard on the M3 is really nice too - among the best semi-weighted I've ever played, although the XS7 isn't all that far behind. Not to mention the option of the Radias card for the M3, which adds a whole new "electronica" dimension to the M3 (although, the M3 is so well suited to those styles of music already that the Radias expansion is just icing on the cake).

The default synth engine is rompler based, but it's got an extensive mod matrix as well as Karma to get things really animated.Īs a very happy owner of both a Motif XS7 and an M3-73 I'd have to say that for the genres you mentioned the M3 easily smokes the Motif in terms of groovability, workflow, and even warmth and punchiness of sounds.
#Karma motif xs upgrade
And note that the upgrade will overwrite your presets (unless I read the notes wrong).Ĭan't really say if you'll need the EXB-Radias, although it does add a nice VA synth engine to the M3. Also, if you want to load all 4 new libraries at once, you'll need the $99 memory expansion (buy direct from Korg, in the US, that would be Korg USA) - otherwise you'll only be able to load one of the 4 at a time. XPanded is a free download but you'll need a USB thumb drive. XPanded includes upgrades to the sequencer, 4 new sample libraries (a better piano, brass, woodwinds, etc.), Karma, etc. Apparently some people in Europe can get new M3s with XPanded already installed and (so rumor says) extra memory too. If and when you do get around to trying the M3 in person, try to find out if it has the M3 Xpanded upgrade installed or not. I've been interested in Karma technology for years, which is why I bought my M3. Just saw the "Karma Demo" at Korg's website
#Karma motif xs how to
I guess I should go down to the store and audition the Korg but I need some sound advice.Am I just complaining about a system I don't know how to get the best out of or am I really seeking something different 's a mystery sometimes how there are no complaints (rave reviews really) about the Motif elsewhere and yet I feel strangled by it sometimes like it was made for a different kind of musician. Even when listening to the demos at Yamahas website they seem lackluster compared to the M3 demo. Is KARMA a big deal.listening to the demos at KORG.COM it seems like the M3 is a monster compared to the Motif. Do you think the M3 would be better suited for dance production and do you think it has overall better electro, pop, trance patches (really dig old moogs, junos, arps, oberheims, jupiters etc.) and arpeggio modules. I can't get the arpeggiators on the motif to do anything "classic" as far as sequences suited to synth-pop and trance (my preferred genres) Then there's the fact that the M3 won the awards last year while the Motif got none at all. I previously used a Kurzweil K2000 which I thought did a better job with dance sounds.I bought the Motif thinking it would be a technical upgrade from the K2 but really as far as I can tell it is well equipped with "realistic" sounds but not synthy/dancey sounds/arps/beats.
#Karma motif xs Patch
Just saw the "Karma Demo" at Korg's website and really thought it was outshining my current keys (The Motif).I feel like the Motif is missing something in terms of classic synth sounds and patch editing capabilities in general.
